  • Blog Review: They Draw & Cook

    Pretty Pink Pasta Salad

This website is R-A-D!  Artists can make their own 1200X by 450X recipe card where the ingredients aren't just typed up, but illustrated.  If you are artistically inclined and have a favorite recipe, I urge you to go to this site and submit your work.  Sometimes it is hard to read a recipe and really understand what you need to do.  With these artistic interpretations it can make the task easier or more difficult.  But some of these recipe cards aren't so much about the recipe because they are more about the visual representation of the food and process.  Here are a few recipes I saved because they look amazing.  Draw and Cook Recipes

  • Artist Profile: Karen Portaleo and her $1,000 cakes

For her 30th birthday, a woman asked that her cake resemble the bag she was going to receive as her big gift with her favorite pooch inside.

Karen Portaleo is a famous cake maker and bakery owner in Atlanta Georgia.  She has made cakes for celebrities like Elton John.  She also made a cake worth thousands of dollars.  Her ability to create realistic looking cakes comes from her background as a clay sculptor.  Her top cake was modeled after a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk and was a whopping $6,300!  These are not your ordinary pretty cakes, or even extreme cakes.  These are works of art.  Statue like but edible.  And yes, she does prefer that you consume them and not freeze them for a million years.  See this expensive cake after the jump
